Therapeutic Massage Therapy

Hello, I’m Jo Alese Martini and I’ve been a Neuromuscular Massage Therapist for over twelve years. Dr. Joe and I recently married and have the pleasure of sharing our life’s work together. At our office you will enjoy a warm family atmosphere.
Therapeutic Massage is a healing practice that treats the tensions of the mind and body. Massage therapy manipulates the soft tissues of the body releasing natural endorphins that ease both the muscular and mental stress by breaking the pain cycle. Each person has a dynamic mind-body connection that is constantly having an internal dialogue. Our thought processes send signals of pain or pleasure to all parts of the body and these messages become stored in our muscles. Massage can be the key to disarming past memories and pain both physical and mental, which are often carried around in the body for years.
Therapeutic massage helps restore balance, and brings the body back to normal by triggering the relaxation response. The relaxation response is the opposite of the stress response, bringing the endocrine and automatic nervous systems in to play with a “ sigh of relief,” slower heart rate, deep breathing, more relaxed muscles, and better internal circulation and digestion.
The massage approach that I will be using is a combination of Swedish and Neuromuscular Therapy. Swedish Massage incorporates long, firm strokes using kneading and friction techniques combines with active and passive joint movements. The one-hour session will work the entire body and individual needs will determine if more time needs to be spent in a certain area. Manipulation of the soft tissues increases blood flow by eight times the normal rate which keeps you healthier by removing greater amounts of wastes and toxins. Neuromuscular Massage is very specific work to detect and relieve “trigger points and tender points” found during the massage. These points are carefully kneaded until a release is felt which breaks the pain-spasm-pain cycle. Therapy is not intended to be painful. An experience of “good pain” according to each individual is the guideline followed. If a muscle has been injured or has scar tissue it may take several sessions to gradually break up the adhesions. Deep relaxed breathing by the client can help the massage be even more beneficial by supplying more oxygen to the areas being treated.
As a certified massage therapist I have the clinical skills and techniques to relieve your aching muscles. Even beyond the technical skills, I have a sincere desire from my heart to help you on your path to wellness. It is my goal to help you feel great and be able to reach your health goals.
